CHECK THE LEVELS: A Day with Trae Tha Truth (PART 1)

MAN! Check the photos below, the Riders Against The Storm just sent me this great Trae video, where they roll with him through Houston. It's a real cool look at the man in his city.

Real talk.

The Fun Parts of My Past Week

Not that riding on the enemy isn't fun, but I mean, yeah, I do things other than go all "drama queen" on boys. Or girls. or Wimmin. Whoever.

Anyway, in a post below I ask why it's gotta go down so hard on a Friday night in Austin. Well, realistically, that's how it goes down in Austin. So much music, every night, I need to try and catch way more of it.

Here's some pics and a brief report on what I have seen in the past week.

Cuz it really went down.

Firstly last Wednesday I went down ta the Beauty Bar to check out a show presented in part by my family at TheSouthernShift. It was a live band hip-hop explosion featuring...

Queen Deelah who recently moved to Austin from Oakland (I assume recently, not sure) and she RIPPED IT!

An Open Letter to 97.9 The BoxFrom Matt Sonzala

To Whom it May Concern,

And as this is an "open letter," I mean all y'all. All of you who are or should be concerned about the situation happening at 97.9 The Box in Houston."

It pains me to write this letter, as this week, I along with every lover of hip-hop music and culture have already been hit hard by the passing of Keith "Guru" Elam. When Guru, the voice behind Gang Starr, passed away on Tuesday, I and plenty of other people pulled out our old Gang Starr records and celebrated the life of one of hip-hop's most engaging and important MC's. We listened to his music as we mourned our collective loss.

Former 5th Ward Boyz MC 007 Signs with Much Luvv Records!

I don't normally post press releases but this news is really great. 007 is an old friend of mine, I was a big supporter of the 5th Ward Boyz, and when he went to prison, that really killed me man. Then when Lo Life went to prison, and E-Rock was the only one still out, I was totally floored. Lo Life is still locked up, E-Rock is on the music grind coming with new stuff constantly and rolling a lot with the Coughee Brothaz, and now 007 is on a much better path. I saw him at SXSW and he just looked revitalized man. So happy to see this. Anyway check it out.

Much Luvv Records Signs Former Rap-A-Lot Record's Gangsta Rap Artist, 007.

This post should be titled HAPPY 420But alas, noRest In Power Keith "Guru" Elam

One of the most influential voices in hip-hop PERIOD has passed. The voice behind Gang Starr, the visionary behind Jazzmatazz, the man whose rhymes influenced and challenged a generation of MC's.

The legendary Guru has succumbed to cancer, so today, while we blow big in his honor and in honor of this great holiday (#420), lets jam.
