Just so folks know this new law to ban ethnic studies was first proposed by the same white supremacist/ Neo-nazi Russell Pearse who co-wrote the immigration bill. It was SB 1108. If folks have not realized it, what we see is all out war, supported by out and out ignorance. The banning of ethnic studies in Arizona is no different than the Texas text book saga where they are removing ethnic heroes like Thurgood Marshall and Cesar Chavez. Some people feel like what is going on in Arizona won't impact them, when in fact it will sooner or later... Right now they are firing teachers in Texas who teach outside the lessons and try to slip in the extra history. In Arizona they are removing teachers who speak with an accent. This is happening in 2010. Hope folks stay abreast and keep pushing back...

Anyway, in a post below I ask why it's gotta go down so hard on a Friday night in Austin. Well, realistically, that's how it goes down in Austin. So much music, every night, I need to try and catch way more of it.

Filmmaker Michael Moore pulled no punches during his recent appearnce on Larry King Live.. He's not a fan of Goldman Sachs.. He's not a fan of Chris Dodd's bill even though he's a Democrat. He does give some recommendations as to who we should support..

You can't escape the nut cases they're all around... On one hand you don't wanna give away too much power on the other hand, you don't wanna complete ignore folks especially when some of them carry badges, spent time in the military or they're running for office ina politically charged climate that likes to scapegoat those who see most vulnerable.Case in point is Pat Bertroche, the blowhard running for Congress in Iowa. He wants to put microchips in immigrants.
Why should folks in Texas be concerned about the new immigration law in Arizona? Because as we speak there are forces right here in the Lone Star state trying to bring the Arizona Apartheid-like law to Texas.. In a recent edition of the Peter Morrison Report a letter petitioning Rick Perry Lt Gov Dehurts and Speaker Straus was sent asking them to follow Arizon's lead.

The Arizona immigration bill -- which Governor Jan Brewer has decided to sign into law -- is racist, deceitful, and reflects some of the most mean-spirited politics against immigrants that the country has ever seen. The power that this law gives to police to detain people that they suspect to be undocumented brings racial profiling to a new low. Brewer's actions and those of Joe Arpaio, Russell Pearce, the Arizona State Senate are despicable, inexcusable, and endorse the all-out hate campaign that Joe Arpaio, Russell Pearce, and others have perpetrated upon immigrants for years.
When I saw this article on Huff-Po talking about how Leo Berman of Tyller, Texas was crying about how President Obama was 'God's punishment' on him and his right-wing ilk, there were two things I wanted to say... First, i wanted to say Leo, you're a grown man stop whining. Man up you ole douche bag, grow a pair and stop crying. All that whining is making Texans look bad. You know the rules, true Texans don't cry about who's in office, they hold it down and keep it moving.
The story around Robert Hicks and his group Deacons for Defense have all but been erased from public consciousness. You check on familiar touch points like YouTube and there's nothing there. Pictures are hard to find and articles are scant. The thought of armed Black men standing up to the KKK and successfully protecting lives and propert during the harsh days of the Jim Crow South is a scary thought for many. The truth of the matter is many African Americans did not sit back and just allow themselves to be beaten and terrorized by the KKK. Hicks represented an underplayed part of our history..
By now everyone has heard of the crazy law that just passed in Arizona, SB 1070. This is the new Apartheid-like, anti-immigration law that allows police to stop you on the suspicion of not being a citizen and check for proof that you are not undocumented. Many in the Grand Canyon state fear this will lead to increased racial profiling with anyone having brown skin bearing the full brunt of this new law.
