Celebrate Houston!

Celebrate Houston's diversity and building a positive future.

Sunday, November 1, Noon to 10pm
Tlaquepaque Market plaza at 716 Telephone Road and Lockwood
(Two miles east of downtown and 1/2 mile north of University of Houston)

Among the unique buildings of the Tlaquepaque Market plaza, visitors will enjoy live music and distinctive arts and crafts. Houston's socially- and politically-conscious world music group The Presidents have reunited to perform at this important celebration. More exciting music sets will be performed by Los Pistoleros de Tejas (2009 Houston Press award winners for Best Latin Traditional Music), Karina Nistal Band, Sister Sister, and many more. There will be traditional dance performed by Danza Azteca de Teokalli, along with mariachi and African drumming by Imani Vida. Latin Grammy artist Lizbeth Ortiz will curate Day of the Dead altars and a fun fashion show inside the East End Urban Market. Kids Write to Know will facilitate hands-on youth activities in the Kids Zone and present a children's dance performance themed Kids Celebrate Houston! Progressive non-profit organizations and independent vendors will promote diverse interests among the festival goers. There will be a display of electric cars by the Houston Electric Car Company and lowrider cars and bikes exhibited by the Houston Lowrider Council.

HPJC will have a table at the Celebrate Houston! festival and encourages everyone to participate by signing up to volunteer some time at the HPJC table. To get involved call Lee at 713-524-1944.
