Join Evan Smit
h and KLRU's Texas Monthly Talks for an interview with longtime 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer. Safer began his 39th season with the program in September 2009, a run that seems almost impossibly long until you learn that his work with CBS spans six decades. In that time, Safer has earned every major award in broadcast journalism – many of them numerous times. Three of those were awarded for Safer’s 1983 report about a wrongful conviction in Texas which led to the release of an innocent man serving a life sentence. Before joining 60 Minutes in 1970, Safer worked as a correspondent in Vietnam, as London bureau chief for CBS, as a correspondent and producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and as a print reporter. And he promises he has no plans to quit anytime soon.
