The 1992 campaign to close the fuel storage facilities in East Austin, known as the “Tank Farm,” was an issue that brought grassroots empowerment and bridged east and  west Austin environmentalists. The Tank Farm campaign:

• Brought together city, county and state agencies for discussions in East Austin.
• Sparked a dialogue between interagency groups.
• Held elected officials accountable for protecting the health and the welfare of the people.
• Created land use policy changes.
• Pushed for creation of legislation to protect people and the environment.

This year’s 18th Anniversary will recognize outstanding community leaders such as: Susana Almanza, Sylvia Herrera, Antonio Diaz, Janie Rangel, Johnny Limon,
Chris Fanuel, Ron Davis, Mary Hernandez, Fidelina Rivera, Neil Carman and many others who helped close the toxic Tank Farm. We will hear from elected officials who assisted the community such as:  Former County Commissioner Marcos DeLeon, former Judge Bill Aleshire, former County Attorney Ken Oden, former Texas Air Control Board Chair Kirk Watson, former State Representative Glen Maxey, former State Senator Gonzalo Barrientos and many more.

The celebration begins with a Dinner at 6:00 pm and Film Screen of, "Tank Farm- Los Tanques" produced by Rene Renteria & Joseph Vitone along with
photo exhibit. The Celebration will be held at the Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center, 808 Nile Street (near Pleasant Valley and Webberville intersection). RSVP 512/472-9921
