Community Leader for December: Gwen Johnson of Alief

“Because the community is what makes the future for the kids. If the kids are well rounded then they will make more well rounded citizens. The children are what make this city, the state and a better world. We need to start in the community, if we're going to change the way the world works, we need to start in the community one person at a time.

 – Gwen Johnson, Alief Community Leader

Gwen is a recognized role model for youth and families at The Mint. She is a dedicated mother and grandmother, minister, former school teacher, and is currently wrapping up her doctorate in theology while still making time to run a weekly Children of Character youth group at the resource center Texans Together helped establish, yielding an average of 30 youth in attendance.

Hats off to Gwen for getting involved and making a difference in her neighborhood!
