What Every Texan Needs to Know about the 2010 Census

• Fact:  It is Constitutionally mandated that the U.S. conduct a Census every 10 years.
• Fact:  Much of the Federal funding that Texas receives depends on the results of the Census.
• Fact:  Congressional reapportionment and redistricting in each state are determined by the results of the Census every 10 years.
• Fact:  Texas may gain as many as 4 new Congressional seats as a result of this Census.

Our speaker is League member Bruce Elfant, Travis County Pct. 5 Constable, and Co-chair of the Central Texas Complete Count Steering Committee, who understands very well what happened to Travis County as a result of the undercount in the last census.  Having an accurate Census count impacts funding for key community resources, such as new school construction, transportation, health services and many essential businesses.
