Southern Shift to Host a RISE Session

RISE conference logoAre you an entrepreneur in the Austin area looking to network and learn new ways to build and promote your business? Then be sure to check out the RISE Conference taking place in Austin this week (March 1-5). All the sessions are free and designed for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs. RISE sessions are independently organized by hosts, each of whom chooses his/her own topic and session location. These peer-led forums are limited to 25 participants and take place all over Austin.

On Wednesday the 3rd at 10am, Southern Shift will be hosting a session focused on the question, Can Political Engagement Help Your Business Succeed? The whole Southern Shift team - Ann del Llano, Davey D & Noelle Davis - will be together to present this session and to help entrepreneurs explore how political awareness and civic engagement can make a difference in their bottom line. We look forward to meeting you!

About the Southern Shift Session
When was the last time you interacted with your elected officials? Do they know what you offer and what you need to succeed? Why did small business and entrepreneurs get left out of the federal stimulus package, even though small businesses create 70% of all new jobs in America? How does the new state margins tax affect your business? Why are local tax dollars gifted to out-of-state corporations in the form of "incentives" when we all know that buying local is more healthy for our economy? What other public policy decisions block your progress and what can you do about it? What happens when policy makers only hear from one segment of the business community, instead of receiving diverse perspectives? Rather than get bogged down in the details of any one policy, we will offer pragmatic tools and have an interactive conversation about how we can build better businesses by becoming politically engaged.

Date: Wednesday 3-3-10
Time: 10 - 11:30am
Location:
Esquina Tango
