We are putting the final touches on our Travis County Democratic Convention, and I am convinced that this gathering will be both inspiring and loads of fun.
It is, of course, free and open to the public, and I urge all of you to come. However, to guarantee admission, you should RSVP here by midnight on Friday. Besides selecting delegates to the State Party Convention (June 25-26 in Corpus Christi), we will get to enjoy Austin’s own winner or 9 Grammy awards, Western swing legend, Asleep at the Wheel.
Here are the basics: The County Convention is this Saturday at the Palmer Events Center on Barton Springs Road. We moved the convention from the Delco Center last week, so please take note and tell all your friends and fellow Democrats who may not know.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program begins at 10 a.m., including a Clean Energy Rally with Mayor Lee Leffingwell, as well as addresses from Congressman Lloyd Doggett, Senator Kirk Watson, and Lt. Governor candidate Linda Chavez Thompson.
To get in the mood for the Clean Energy Rally, check out this week’s “Democrats on the Record with Diane Holloway.” She interviewed Roger Duncan, who just retired as general manager of Austin Energy and is an eloquent and nationally recognized expert on clean energy.
Remember, you can still get a booth at the convention for your club, candidate or organization. For more information, click here.
We will also need your help as a volunteer on the day of the convention to make sure everything runs smoothly. To sign up to be a volunteer, click here.
Our County Convention promises to be unlike any other, and I know you will be energized by the promise of turning Texas blue in November. So please come and join your fellow Travis County Democrats for a day that will rival SXSW and the rodeo for March Madness fun!
