MC Lyte, Brave New Voices, Meta-Four Bring Hip Hop to Downtown’s Discovery Green Life is Living Festival

Pioneering Hip Hop icon MC Lyte, along with Brave New Voices featuring spoken word icon  Marc Bamuthi Joseph, recently touched down in Houston for the Discovery Green /Life is Living Festival and got seriously busy. She let the packed crowd know that female emcees weren’t a rarity in Hip Hop and that people need to turn off their radios and not be a statistic for outlets that don’t fully represent them or the culture they love. She alerted people to her new website project called HipHopSisters.com which strives to be a safe space for women in Hip Hop.

FEATURING LEGENDARY PERFORMER MC LYTE, MUSIC, DANCE, AND ART

Hip-hop legend MC LyteHOUSTON, Texas (October 20, 2009) – This fall marks the launch of a major new initiative hosted by the UH Mitchell Center for the Arts. Life Is Living is a national campaign that uses urban street arts to engage communities of color in conversations about environmentalism and sustainable living.

The Mitchell Center will launch the Life Is Living initiative in Houston with a kickoff event on November 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Discovery Green (1500 McKinney Ave) in downtown Houston. Admission is free.
