Immediately after Arizona passed it's controversial anti-immigration law SB 1070, leaders in Texas weighed in and gave their take on it. Some conservative Lawmakers immediately launched a petition drive to Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, and Speaker of the House Joe Straus demanding that they get serious about dealing with the invasion of illegals that is transforming Texas, and give us a bill that's just as powerful and effective as the one that just became law in Arizona. This peitition was put forth via the Peter Morrison Report.
Governor Rick Perry is the gift that keeps on giving. First he's the highest and most visible government official to date to publicly state that our great State of Texas should secede from the rest of the union. I guess at the time it made him feel like some sort of edgy, rebellious guy, but sadly his buffoonish remarks made our great state the laughing-stock of the country.
Former Houston Mayor and current gubernatorial candidate Bill White has been making a lot of noise lately on the national stage. He's been getting quite a bit of press including articles in a couple of well read publications like The NY Times and The Hill. There seems to be a lot of interest in whether or not the popular mayor can knock off Texas' longest-serving governor Rick Perry and swing the political pendulum of Texas in a decisive leftward direction even though for the record White likes to describe himself as a middle of the road type of guy. Be that as it may, with Rick Perry seemingly responding affirmatively to the loud and angry voices of the Tea Party, the more he moves to the right, the more White starts to shine.
Why should folks in Texas be concerned about the new immigration law in Arizona? Because as we speak there are forces right here in the Lone Star state trying to bring the Arizona Apartheid-like law to Texas.. In a recent edition of the Peter Morrison Report a letter petitioning Rick Perry Lt Gov Dehurts and Speaker Straus was sent asking them to follow Arizon's lead.

We know darn well most of us don't want this law in place. Folks in Texas are gonna have to gear up and get ready to fight..
Is Texas gearing up to send another one of her sons to the White House? If it's current Governor Rick Perry, we certainly hope not. Folks should be warned. In recent weeks 'Mr Good Hair' has been acting like the 'reluctant warrior' who may 'need' to go to the White House and 'save' America. Yes, we know it's laughable, but we've seen stranger things - Can You say George W Bush?
Ya gotta hand it to Governor Rick Perry, like him or not, dude certainly knows how to campaign and keep his name front and center in media news cycles. What a brilliant move on his part to exonerate Tim Cole, a man falsely convicted of rape who served 13 of a 25 year sentence in Texas prisons where he tragically died of an astma attack in 1999.
Recently we had a chance to hear Cory Session, Sr., speak about the 10 year anniversary of his beloved brother Tim Cole dying in a Texas jail cell, before he could prove his innocence. A former army veteran with no prior criminal record, he was labeled ‘The Texas Tech Rapist‘, a charge he strongly denied. His family did everything in their power to prove his innocence. After his death the Innocence Project of Texas was able to prove he was wrongly accused through DNA evidence. They went to a court of appeals where i t was declared that he was wrongly convicted.
UPDATE: Bill White IS running for Governor of Texas. Click HERE to read more about his announcement in Houston earlier today.
When criminals are about to be caught, they try to hide their wrongdoing. When drug dealers hear the police sirens, they dump the stash in the alley or flush it down the toilet. When the Nazi officers in the concentration camps heard the allied forces approaching, they destroyed—and in many cases murdered—the evidence.
There’s something about the light of day when it shines its truth upon you.
Today the Austin Statesman had an interesting article that many of us know all too well. When it comes to taking care of life’s basic necessities i.e. food, clothing and shelter, if you leave it in the hands of profit driven corporations and individuals, the very people they are supposed to serve will be short changed. It happens time and time again. Pick a place, pick a time you will find examples underscoring this assertion.
When it comes to making money and having to serve the public sector on behalf of the government what we often find is that important corners are seriously cut. And why not? Who’s gonna care? The public? Well sure they may care, but they aren’t gonna organize and go through all the hoops to fight back. It’s not like you vote a private company out of business and if they’re the only game in town...guess what? You can’t take your hard earned business elsewhere.
